Coeliac disease

Coeliac Disease

Coeliac disease is a chronic autoimmune condition, which occurs in genetically susceptible people who are sensitive to gluten; a protein found naturally in wheat, barley and rye. Coeliac disease causes damage to the small intestine which in turn causes problems with the absorption of nutrients from food.

Typical symptoms include bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, fatigue and weight loss. However, some patients don’t experience any symptoms at all but coeliac disease may be suspected if tests show anaemia, (iron deficiency) or osteoporosis (thinning bones).

“At Ellingham Nutrition, our Registered Nutritional Therapist, Annie, will support you to unravel the nutrition and dietary myths and conflicting information.”

How can nutritional therapy help?

Once a patient is diagnosed, the only treatment for coeliac disease is a strict avoidance of all gluten containing foods for life. Nutritional therapy can help by supporting the immune system, reducing future disease risk, optimising nutritional status and restoring the gut bacteria to support overall wellbeing.

How I work

The Ellingham Nutrition approach is personalised and tailored to each client; we will first conduct a discovery call to discuss your health concerns and issues, how they impact your life and what you aim to gain from our sessions. The following stage is an in-clinic, phone or zoom appointment, where we will talk in detail and establish a long-term plan.

Our fees

This service is tailored for people who aren’t able to make it into the clinic but still want one-to-one nutritional support from the comfort of their own homes and fit around your busy lifestyle.

The Ellingham Nutrition team offer consultations online via zoom, this offers you a similar experience to an in-person appointment, but the consultations will be via a secure online video instead of a face-to-face consulting room.

Our nutritional consultations can also be conducted face-to-face in our clinic. A one-to-one consultation with each client will further understand the factors affecting their nutrition and well-being.
